I take clonazepam and Im really interested in statistics on use?

I live in Canada and have been prescribed Clonazepam for GAD and I am really interested in finding out how many people are prescribed Clonazepam. Would anyone know where I could find info on this or statistics on he number of people who take this medication?. I feel like I am the only one who needs this to function with the anxiety or the stresses of everyday life. I know im not really alone, but I think it would help to find out if this is more common that I think. Thanks for your help!

Hell, I eat it like candy, love that stuff. It's even sweet like candy. You should see the goodness they have in Hong Kong. It's called "Rivitrill" there. Anyway, they have these super high dose (20 mg) pills that make you feel so so loose and goooooood! Clonapin heaven! No you are NOT the only one. Hey, did you

know that diazapam (the parent drug - Valium) is the most commonly used medicine in the world? More popular than aspirin and anti-biotics. Hope that puts things into perspective.
Reply:Clonazepam is used for seizures and panic disorders. It should only be used short term and is highly addictive. Type in your search bar "side effects of clonazepam" and go to the Yahoo Health site which has some very good info. Check out the other sites too so you are informed about this medication. You might also check out "alternative treatments for anxiety" to see what is available for a more healthy alternative. I hate when doctors just give you a pill for things that can be treated naturally. A pill is the easy way out but you should always weigh the consequences of taking prescription medications and their side effects against a natural alternative.

My doctor was very firm about giving me cholesteral medications for extremely high cholesteral. I refused and did my homework and used supplements and diet. In 6 weeks he retested me and I had perfect cholesteral readings. He was amazed and I didn't destroy my liver by taking his prescription!

Do your homework first! Good Luck!
Reply:Clonazepam is used for a lot of different reasons. The doses vary as well. The more you take the more dependent you will become. There is a website www.rxlist.com and it has different categories which could really help you. Make sure that you see a specialist to continue using them and not just your family doctor. There may be other options to help you so that you would be taking the minimum amount. You are one of very many.
Reply:Many, many people are on Clonazepam. Many. It is highly prescribed for GAD.
Reply:I use Clonazepam (Klonopin) for anxiety in combination with treatments for clinical depression. I find it works well, especially at bedtime when I am more prone to Anxiety attacks.

For information about the medication itself, ask your pharmacist for an insert, or to get you a copy of the CPS pages. (Compendium of Phamaceuticals)

I think the only way you could find out about statistics would be to contact the drug company and ask, but if there are generic brands, it may be very difficult.

Rest assured, clonazepam is very commonly prescribed for anxiety dissorders as it is one of the safer options, having a fewer number of side effects. A benzodiazepine, it is considered an Anxiolitic.

As a nurse, I have given it to adult patients of every age, both men and women seem to respond well. I has been shown to reduce anxiety better than a placebo (sugar pill) in clinical trials. It si worth a try, especially if you are struggling with an anxiety dissorder, but only when prescribed by an MD.

Best wishes, Ket-Su

The technical info:

Clinical Trials: Panic Disorder: The effectiveness of Klonopin in the treatment of panic disorder was demonstrated in two double-blind, placebo-controlled studies of adult outpatients who had a primary diagnosis of panic disorder (DSM-IIIR) with or without agoraphobia. In these studies, Klonopin was shown to be significantly more effective than placebo in treating panic disorder on change from baseline in panic attack frequency, the Clinician’s Global Impression Severity of Illness Score and the Clinician’s Global Impression Improvement Score.

Study 1 was a 9-week, fixed-dose study involving Klonopin doses of 0.5, 1, 2, 3 or 4 mg/day or placebo. This study was conducted in four phases: a 1-week placebo lead-in, a 3-week upward titration, a 6-week fixed dose and a 7-week discontinuance phase. A significant difference from placebo was observed consistently only for the 1 mg/day group. The difference between the 1 mg dose group and placebo in reduction from baseline in the number of full panic attacks was approximately 1 panic attack per week. At endpoint, 74% of patients receiving clonazepam 1 mg/day were free of full panic attacks, compared to 56% of placebo-treated patients.

Study 2 was a 6-week, flexible-dose study involving Klonopin in a dose range of 0.5 to 4 mg/day or placebo. This study was conducted in three phases: a 1-week placebo lead-in, a 6-week optimal-dose and a 6-week discontinuance phase. The mean clonazepam dose during the optimal dosing period was 2.3 mg/day. The difference between Klonopin and placebo in reduction from baseline in the number of full panic attacks was approximately 1 panic attack per week. At endpoint, 62% of patients receiving clonazepam were free of full panic attacks, compared to 37% of placebo-treated patients.

Subgroup analyses did not indicate that there were any differences in treatment outcomes as a function of race or gender.
