Do I have to take Calculus in order to take Statistics? What is statistics?

I am a high school junior and I plan to become a nurse. I know that I have to take Statistics in College. I heard of Calculus, but what is Calculus AB and BC? Do i have to take calculus in order to take statistics?

Elementary statistics classes (offered at most colleges) are not calculus-based. However, more advanced statistics classes are. I wouldn't worry about taking calculus as a prerequisite for statistics.
Reply:I suspect that Calculus AB and BC are definitions that are specific to whatever school you're attending, or going to attend. So we wouldn't know, and you'd have to ask them.

Some statistics requires calculus, and some of it doesn't. Whether you have to take calculus in order to take statistics depends on whether your school's statistics course includes the statistics that requires calculus, or whether it's only the statistics that doesn't require calculus. There again, you'd have to ask the people at your school.
Reply:No you don't have to take calculus in order to take statistics.

Calculus AB is more like straight computations such as derivatives, and basic integrals. Whereas Calculus BC requires more intuition. it includes infinite series, Maclaurin series, and Taylor series.

Don't even confuse yourself with these terms which you may not heard about.

All you've got to know is that statistics is great. just keep going...
Reply:Depends on what kind of statistics course. Calculus is a very broad area of math that basically deals with the rate of changes of functions. Calculus AB and BC are the AP Calculus tests; Calc AB traditionally is the first semester, and BC is the second semester.

Calculus is used extensively in statistics, but many applies statistics classes you'll encounter do not require calculus. Many do, however. It depends mostly on the school you are going to. Look at some of the course catalogs online of the classes you have to take for your major, and then look up their prereqs. It's not a bad idea to take Calc AB in high school if you can; even if you have no interest in math, you get it out of the way early.
Reply:I took statistics last semester and I'm talking Calculus this semester, so no. You don't need either one to take the other.

Statistics is the study of probabilities. What are the chances something is going to happen, etc.

Good luck with Nursing!!
Reply:no...it is not somehow correlated with each other and not interdependent
