I'm basically curious as to whether or not sports statistics are public domain. If you do not know the answer, do you know how I could get a definitive answer on this (ie hire a lawyer)?

Is it legal to copy and use NFL statistics for a for-profit site?
I would say that the statistics are definitely public info, I think you just need permission if you want to show game clips.
