My final paper in my statistics class is how i can use statistics in my major after graduation. my major is social work...any social work or statistics majors know of any way I can relate the two?
Thanks!
Anyone have ne ideas on how i can use statistics in social work field?
Program evaluation would be the primary place that ANY social worker at the BSW or MSW level would be able to use statistics. Statistics answer the question "HOW MUCH difference is there between a pre and post state and/or "HOW MUCH" does a single factor contribute to understanding a phenomenon (or program). Statistics further answer is that difference due to the program or "CHANCE" The goal of statistics is to enplane that the difference is not related to "CHANCE".
The other place statistics can be used is in practice when one uses a single system design to actually help a client address and issue (which will also provide practice evaluation data).

Reply:Social work and statistics are an easy fit. Statistics help define evidence based practice-- whether certain treatments/interventions are effective-- just as they help determine if a certain prescription drug is effective. The above suggestions are great. If you need to narrow it down, think of a population you really would like to work with... domestic violence victims, foster youth, people with a specific mental illness, etc. You should be able to find tons of statistics on the population. You can even think of an intervention you'd like to use... for example, if domestic violence death review teams make a difference (or how they make a difference), or if art therapy reduced symptoms of depression in adults seeking treatment, etc. Hope that helps!
Reply:SURE,
THEY USE STATISTICS TO EVALUATE PROGRAM'S THAT ARE GOVERNMENT FUNDED, SUCH AS WELFARE, EDUCATION,EMPLOYMENT,
IMMIGRATION, SENIOR PROGRAMS, CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS, DAYCARE, ETC.
STAT'S "GAGE" A PROGRAM(S) FAILURE/SUCCESS,
THIS HELPS TO DETERMINE IF THE PROGRAM FUNDED IS SUCCESSFUL OR NOT WORKING (%),
IT ALSO DETERMINES THE "NEXT STEP" TO USE WHEN "USING/SPENDING" MONEY FROM GOV'T SOURCES.....
IT IS A WAY TO TRACK
"THE HAPPENINGS OF A FUNDED SYTEM" EQUIVALENT TO SUCCESS/FAILURE.....CONTINUE/NOT.... IMPROVE/ IMPLIMENT
ETC ETC
